Community Service Project

On Sunday, May 4, Troop 31 will perform a community service project. We will provide setup, teardown and cleanup, as well as first-aid and litter collection stations, for the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Rochester Chapter's 2008 Walk4Hearing.

The walk is a 5 km (3 mile) sponsored walk along the Erie Canal in Perinton, starting and ending at Perinton Park. Perinton Park is located at the Erie Canal on Route 31F in Perinton. For a map and directions using Mapquest, click here. All sponsorship and funds collection will be handled by HLAA members, Troop 31 will not be involved in any money-handling aspect of the walk.

Specifc tasks will include:

Before the walkers begin arriving, setting up tables for walker registration, distribution of Walk4Hearing materials, posting of signage and so on.

During walker registration, and before the walk begins, set up first aid/litter collection stations at 0.5 km intervals along the walk route. Also distribute sponsor acknowledgement signs along the route. Assist adults in parking direction and management.

During the walk, staff the first aid/litter collection stations.

After the walk, break down the stations, retrieve and return the signage, put the tables and other materials away, help the HLAA members load their cars, and police the walk area for litter, etc.

Based on last year's experience, Scouts should plan on arriving at 7:45 AM. We will be done around noon.

To help make ourselves visible to those we are serving, all Scouts should be in Class A uniforms.

If you need a ride to the park, please e-mail the Scoutmaster.
